The Coalition To Stop Avelo
We are done waiting for the next attack from the Trump agenda. It’s time to fight back, and we’re starting with Avelo airlines.
Avelo Airlines has accepted a $150 million contract to operate deportation flights, aiding in the illegal removal of individuals without their right to a fair hearing or due process. It’s time for Avelo to feel the full force of our anti-fascist, anti-oppressive anger. Together we will:
Organize Anti-Avelo Protests in Avelo Cities Around the Country
Organize a National Boycott of Avelo - drive their ticket sales to zero
Pressure City/State Officials to Review, Suspend, and Terminate Avelo Contracts and Subsidies
File lawsuits against cities and states that continue to fund Avelo in violation of their own laws and values.
Avelo’s contract with ICE is cruel, inhumane and a direct violation of our Constitution.
Our Coalition will not stop until Avelo cancels its ICE contract - or we put Avelo out of business!
illegal and inhumane
Legal and Constitutional Context
In a unanimous and recent ruling, the United States Supreme Court reaffirmed that individuals facing deportation have the constitutional right to due process, including a fair hearing before removal proceedings can take place.
This decision underscores that no individual — regardless of their immigration status — can be lawfully removed from the country without an opportunity to challenge their deportation in court.
This ruling builds on longstanding interpretations of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, which safeguard individuals from unlawful detention and removal.
Deportations carried out without affording individuals this constitutionally mandated hearing are not only a violation of federal law but also raise significant civil and human rights concerns.
Avelo’s Responsibility to Act Ethically
As a commercial airline operating in 50+ cities across the United States, Avelo Airlines has a clear obligation to ensure its operations do not contribute to or facilitate unlawful activity.
The company’s multimillion dollar contract to operate deportation flights for ICE is both deeply troubling and a clear violation of the “good faith” clause in Avelo’s contracts to operate in cities across the country.
Avelo’s leadership, especially its CEO and Chairman, Andrew Levy, must take immediate steps to realign corporate policy with the rule of law and ethical business practices.
And The Need for City/State Action
Until that happens, City and State leaders must act with urgency to clearly condemn Avelo’s illegal flights and to review, suspend and cancel municipal contracts with Avelo.
If dozens of cities and states stand together, Avelo will be forced to choose between serving the public and operating illegal flights for ICE. They can’t do both!
